Limburg start-up with new wound care technology: “Like an electric toothbrush”

Regional newspaper Het Belang van Limburg reports on the breakthrough loan of €200,000 that investment company LRM granted to Yarrow, the start-up from Bree. Founder Kristof Balliu explains how his years as a military nurse and in wound care led to an electric brush that is easy to learn, gentler than existing alternatives and helps wounds heal faster.

The brush was developed together with Pieter Lesage of design and engineering studio Superellipse. The first series are already in use in the United States; the loan supports the roll-out in Europe.

Limburg nurse develops an electric brush to care for chronic wounds

Belgian public broadcaster VRT NWS spoke with founder Kristof Balliu about the Yarrow Wound Brush. As a wound care nurse he saw that chronic wounds are often not cleaned thoroughly enough, which slows down healing. That led to an electric brush with soft silicone bristles that loosens the biofilm in a few minutes, and that any caregiver can use.

The brush is already available in the United States. For Europe, Yarrow receives a breakthrough loan of €200,000 from the Limburgse Reconversiemaatschappij (LRM), mainly for the certification. The European launch is planned for next autumn.
